The Miraculous KhachkarsKhachkars (cross-stones, also spelled khatchkar, khachqar), one of the most characteristic symbols of Armenian identity, are uniquely Armenian form of Christian art and worship. With their marvellous carvings, saviour symbolism of the Holy Cross, and holy power, Khachkars were beloved by pilgrims from the very beginning of the tradition to craft them. Thus, for a pilgrim coming to Armenia, Khachkar is a really unique opportunity of communion with holiness. Khachkars were placed with special ceremony, during which they were blessed and anointed, after which they performed their holy function.
