Biblical Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat from the Arch of Charents

Armenia provides with the opportunity to see Biblical Mount Ararat from its most stunning side (locals also call the mountain Masis). Particularly we suggest that visitors admire the mount from Khor Virap Monastery and the Arch of Charents.

Khor Virap Monastery is located on the place closest to Mount Ararat within Armenian borders. It seems as if you can embrace the mountain to your heart. The location also gives a great chance of taking a photo of the mountain to keep in album and share with friends.

The Arch of Charents and Biblical Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat - Mount of Dreams (Cross-pass the world, yet Ararat is the whitest peak to be sought, As an everlasting walk to fame, my Mount Masis I adore!)

Khor Virap is very symbolic not only because of being at the foot of Noah’s Mountain, but also for being the place of tortures of St. Gregory the Illuminator, the person whose preaching entailed in proclaiming Christianity as state religion as early as in 301.

The Arch of Charents is located on the way to the Cave Monastery of Geghard. It is used as an impressive place to view Mount Ararat and Ararat Valley (especially on a clear day). The arch is named after a favourite Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents, the author of the poem “Of my motherland Armenia”, where he says:

Cross-pass the world, yet Ararat is the whitest peak to be sought,

As an everlasting walk to fame, my Mount Masis I adore!

Every Armenian knows this poem by heart.
