IV Century Churches and MonasteriesChristianity was brought to Armenia by two of our Lord’s Apostles Thaddeus and Bartholomew. It is the first country to proclaim Christianity as its state religion in 301 becoming the first Christian nation in the world. Armenia is one of the few destinations in the world where one has the opportunity to visit unique pilgrimage destinations known from very early ages. At the very outset of the formal adoption of Christianity, St. Grigor Lusavorich (Gregory the Illuminator) – the first official Head of the Armenian Church) commenced founding and building of numerous churches in Armenia.
