Amberd St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church

St. Astvatsatsin is a domed church built in 1026 by the glorious army leader Vahram Pahlavouni.

The Church has two entrances. The northern one has no ornamentation, whereas the one to the south, framed by double arch with a gradually tapering splay, is an original variation of the architectural solution in St. Gregory Church of Ani (now in Turkey).

Not far from the Church there are the ruins of a chapel probably dating back to 10th century.
