Haghpat Monastery is a site worth visiting both from the religious and the architectural points of view. Located in the village of Haghpat in Lori region (Diocese of Gougark) of Armenia it is a monastery surrounded by gorgeous nature and accompanied by “Eden silence” caressing one’s ear. When praying just have a look up to the altar upside and try to find yourself being watched by Christ from above - a vaguely seen fresco of Christ pondering over humanity. Standing by itself on the east side of the monastic complex is the three-story bell tower (1245), which is the best example of the Armenian structures of this type. Haghpat complex is especially rich in khachkars (more than 80 of them have survived), which were intended not only as memorials. Haghpat is one of the sites worth being called a combination of Heaven and Human work. It’s not accidental that a famous poet-singer Sayat Nova joined the monastery the last years of his life and signified the place by his martyrdom. It is also worth mentioning that Hovhannes Imastaser deacon’s (medieval theological philosopher) tomb is in front of the bell tower.
Miracles/Legends:
 | | Amenaprkich Khachkar (1273) stands out from the numerous khachkars of Haghpat. It carries a great number of realistically depicted human figures on it fitted into the unique composition of the decor. The name itself (Amenaprkich meaning “All Saviour”) talks for itself. People from overseas come to pray in front of the khachkar, which is famous for its power of healing and resting serenity inside a human. Its powerful influence has earned the importance of being the longing destination point for the pilgrims. | See also
