Sevanavank Monastery (A famous spiritual centre located on the peninsula of Lake Sevan together with Vaskenian Theological Academy)

Sevanavank Monastery is located on a high hill of a Lake Sevan peninsula (which once was an island). It was founded in 874 by an Armenian Princess and with the request and direction of the All Armenian Catholicos Mashtots Yeghivardetsi (author of "Mashtots" - the book of canons of the Armenian Apostolic Church which is in use up to nowadays).

Sevanavank has been an important spiritual centre in medieval times and is still a beloved pilgrimage site for thousands of visitors from all parts of Armenia.

In 1990, All Armenian Catholicos Vazgen I founded a seminary at Sevanavank, which is now named after his name. Today the seminary is the 2nd major centre of spiritual and theological education after the Gevorgian Spiritual Academy of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
